aka Fosters, Edward Foster & Son, Messrs. Foster, Mess. Foster Founded by Edward Foster, a London-based antiquities dealer and auctioneer, Fosters was a London auction house located at the St James’s Palace end of Pall Mall. It held a series of famous sales of Benin pieces in the late 1920s and early 1930s during a period of economic turndown when several former members of the British Military Campaign on Benin began selling their loot (see Robert B. Allman, George William Neville and Herbert Sutherland Walker). The dealers Charles Ratton and Louis Carré bought considerable collections at the Fosters' sales.
