The term 'figure' loosely describes a range of different figurative sculptures known to have been cast and carved by Edo guilds. In a number of cases it is possible to identify who or what is being portrayed, in those cases the groupings are refined into separate groupings, such as: King Figures, Queen Mother Figures, Ewua Messenger Figures, Hornblower or Fluteplayer Figures, Attendant Figures, Jester Figures, Roof Figures, Udo-Style Figures. In some cases it has only been possible to identify figures as male or female. Animals are also represented, for example Leopard Figures, Rooster Figures, Hen Figures and Snake Figures.
