Rectangular box (a) and lid (b) made of wood used for storing and presenting kola nuts. Outer surface of lid and two long sides of box incised with geometric patterns. Double hole through lid and three holes through side of box for cord attachment, now missing.
Register 1954: "Bearing a label: 'Kola nut box: a rare specimen carved by the native taken after the assault and capture of Eboussa, a large town on the Benin frontier. It was found in the king's compound and was used by him on palaver (friendly) occasions to hand round kola nuts as a mark of friendship. After the was I had it identified.
