Accession book entry: : 'MR JOHN GRANVILLE, ... LIVERPOOL. Carved wooden stool with four legs and flat rectangular top. Carved all over with human figures holding swords and tools; also some abstract designs. The legs are connected by carved wooden strips holding round mirrors set onto tin plate backings. The seat is fixed onto the legs by round-headed iron nails and iron brackets underneath. H = 42.5 cm.; L. top = 65 cm.; W. top = 32.5 cm.; Thickness top ca. 2.8 cm. Collected at the time of, or shortly after the Punitive Expedition of 1897 by Mr Reginald Kerr Granville, Colonial Service; donor's grandfather. Sir R. K. Granville's diary, presented to the Balfour Library by donor. W.B. Fagg confirms that the stool dates from the early 20th cent. Purchased from Mr. J.
