The number '14377' is similar to sale numbers written on items acquired from Webster's or J. C. Steven's sales.
Given the majority of Benin material was acquired from Webster, this has been added with queries to the source field
A small paper label notes in blue ink 'Not entered F.W.G' and on the reverse in blue ball-point pen, 'Now Entered June 1978'.
This refers to the Frederick Green 1950 bequest, which also include items with Webster sale numbers, which are thought to have been acquired on the 1897 Benin Expedition
The terms 'Edo' have been added to the cultural group field and '?Benin Kingdom' to the place fields based on the provenance of other Green material

In January 2017, Prof. Marcos Martinon-Torres and Agnese Benzonelli, UCL Institute of Archaeology, tested this idno using a portable XRF as part of a programme of base metal analysis of Benin material.
