Justus Brinckmann (1843-1915) was the first director of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg and in 1874 was the leading figure in its foundation.

Die Frauen des Königs und hochrangiger Würdenträger trugen aufwendige Frisuren und kostbaren Haarschmuck aus Korallen und Gelbguss. Lange Nadeln dienten zur Befestigung von Perücken, aber auch als Kopfhautkratzer. Bestimmte Schmuckformen und Frisuren waren den Frauen der königlichen Familie vorbehalten und verwiesen auf deren spezifischen Rang.

The wives of the king and of high-ranking dignitaries wore elaborate hairstyles adorned with precious hair ornaments made of coral and brass. Long pins served to fasten wigs, but were also used to scratch the scalp. Certain kinds of jewelry
and hairstyles were reserved for the women of the royal family
and denoted their specific rank.
