Ein besonderes Merkmal der Blashörner im Benin-Reich ist das rechteckige Blasloch auf der konvexen Seite, also der äußeren Biegung, des Hornes. Üblicherweise befinden sich in Afrika die Blaslöcher auf der inneren, konkaven Seite. Bis heute kündigen mehrere Hornbläser den öffentlichen
Auftritt des Oba bei Zeremonien am Vorplatz des Palastes an.
Side-blown Horn

A distinctive feature of blowing horns in the Benin Empire is the rectangular mouthpiece on the convex side, or outer curve, of the horn. Elsewhere in Africa, the horns are blown from the inner, concave side. To this day, when the Oba appears publicly to attend ceremonies in the courtyard of the palace grounds, he is announced by several horn blowers.
