Julius August Konietzko (1886-1952) was a so-called tribalart dealer who, in addition to making acquisitions via the port of Hamburg, also undertook collecting trips himself. He is associated with the Hamburg Museum für Völkerkunde (today MARKK) as a consignor of thousands of ethnographic art and everyday objects from various regions of the world. After Konietzko’s death, his wife Lore Kegel (1901–1980) and their son, Boris Kegel-Konietzko (1925–2020) continued the business. Julius Konietzko himself sold only one object from the Kingdom of Benin to the MARKK in 1911.
