Part of a bronze plaque, irregular in outline and cast with the figure of a soldier in high relief. He has long hair, and is wearing a morion and a coat with four buttons. He is thought to be a Portuguese soldier. In his left hand he holds what looks like

Nigeria, Benin. Acquired by Salford Museum and Art Gallery in 1907 and given the accession number 855. The Salford accession register describes the item as:
‘Bronze casting. A Portuguese soldier, 17th century. Benin, West Africa.’
Unlike the other three items in this list, this one does not have any associated archival material at Manchester Museum. Peter Ogilvie, Collections Manager at Salford Museum and Heritage Service, has confirmed that there are no other associated archives remaining at Salford Museum and Art Gallery either.
