Purchased from Glendining & Co. Ltd auction May 7, 1935, lot 196. Lot description states, "Bronze bell, mask on side, brass dagger in leather sheath, and a massive necklet of large blue beads." The group of lots is titled “Curios from Benin City, etc.” We do not know further collection history of this object; however, it remains possible that this object was taken in 1897. We currently have no conclusive evidence, and provenance research is ongoing.
