Journal kept by L.E.H. Llewellyn
Description
The log and journal kept by Midshipman Llewellyn E.H.Llewellyn as a midshipman on HMS St George, HMS Victorious, HMS Magnificent and HMS Volage, covering the period from 1st October 1895 to 16th February 1899. There is a detailed description of the Benin Expedition as part of the journal, as well as daily descriptions of the preparations. St George left Simons Bay on 20 January 1897, arriving at Forcados Bay, Bight of Benin, on 8 February. HM Ships Forte, Fox, Magpie, Philomel and Widgeon were also present. Llewellyn was in hospital during March 1897 and was then posted to the Channel Squadron. There are no log entries from 28th February to 8th June 1897.
