0:00–0:14 Ẹbomisi was a very strong magician in Benin Kingdom. He lived during the reign of Ọba Ẹwuare and was one of the very prominent herbalists who saved Ọba Ẹwuare, the great Ọba Ẹwaure I, of Benin Kingdom.

0:15–0:51 Ẹbomisi had a medicine which was called Osun, and annually he celebrated his festival, the Osun festival, by inviting other fellow herbalists from different parts of the kingdom. And during this festival, where these herbalists came for his celebration, he engages them in the tests that they are required to use their staff, to prove their potency, to peg it in any parts of the court in his courtyard.

0:52–1:23 And when they failed to do that then he defeated them, and they have to submit themselves to him. Then he continued this game until the particular herbalists knew, all knew, and understand the way the courtyard, every courtyard in Benin was organized because there was always a channel through which water runs out of the courtyard. So during the dry season when the soil was strong, even the channel where water runs out of the courtyard was usually soft so it could be penetrated.

01:24-01:57 And when Ẹbomisi invited Ọbo n’Ayen, and Ọbo n’Ayen got there, Ẹbomisi introduced his usual game, which he had played out with other herbalists, fellow herbalists. And Ọbo n’Ayen, when he took his staff after dancing around the court, decided to peg his staff, his Osun staff, in the ground, he pegged it exactly at the channel where the water runs out of the court. Behold, he became the first person that defeated Ẹbonmisi. Ẹbomisi’s power was brought down in the kingdom.
